One of the many locations we visited during our trip through Scotland. Eilean Donan Castle. A beautiful old castle in the Highlands of Scotland. We saw so many beautiful things in Scotland and this location was one those beautiful things. If you ever have the chance to go on a roadtrip, I recommend Scotland, such a wonderful country with so much to see!
If you want to know more about the castle and the location visit the official website of Eilean Donan Castle.
The photos
These photos were taken at low tide and strong winds. I used a wider angle to capture both the castle and the surroundings. I also made a photo of this castle during the early evening. Because we noticed big lights in the fields to light up the castle at night we decided to go back in the evening to take more photos.
Because there were a lot of clouds the light was evenly spread across the pictures. I waited a little for the sun to come through the clouds and then took the photo that is the featured image of this post. I enhanced the grey mood a little in post-processing by removing some of the color in the photo. Some photographers would have used a longer exposure time for a photo like this but I am not a great fan of clouds that are shaped by the movement in a photo that is exposed longer. It just doesn’t feel right. With water it’s a bit of a different thing though. You can make water flat and clear with longer exposure times. That is something I do like (sometimes). So I used it a little when taking the photo of the castle in the evening. The water never became really clear because of the strong winds.
We stayed at a campsite nearby the castle. Waking up to the view of the castle was magnificent. If you ever have the chance to visit this castle, please do so! It beautiful in all seasons and in all weather conditions!
