In my opinion winter isn’t the best season for landscape (exploration) photography. Especially in the Netherlands. We don’t have mountains and waterfalls for instance. With all the trees bald and most of the color gone in nature it becomes more of a challenge to make beautiful photos.
Snow
From time to time, not too often, the solution to this challenge presents itself in the form of snow. Even bald trees look beautiful when covered in snow! When I’m driving home from work I pass some really nice fields, a lake, and a small forest. In general, you just pass by them in an instance, but when they are covered in snow, I often stop, especially when I have the camera with me. 🙂
Snow in the fields
This happened last year. I left work a little early so I could catch sunset, or at least the last light of that day. I drove to a small town called Glimmen. It’s ride beside the great motorway a drive on to get home. The fields are surrounded by water and trees and with snow and ice the scenery has something special. The sun was setting, there was no wind at all, a perfect ambiance for photography.
