This post is about the Leekstermeer area and that one special evening where I got to photograph a full (super blue) moon and a perfect sunset! It was a very cold February evening. I went out with the camera in the afternoon to shoot some photos of an old house (we call it a “borg”, it’s nearly a castle) in the area of Leek. Afterwards on my way home I decided to stop by a lake called “Leekstermeer” to catch sunset.

It turned out great. The sun was setting beautiful, there were birds all around and the colors were just amazing!

Early evening

Even in the early evening when sun sill gave plenty of light the visit was worth it. It was freezing cold but the light was just great. I took some photos of the somewhat abandoned area. During summer a lot more people come to visit the lake but on a Tuesday evening in February there’s hardly anybody!

Later that evening

As the evening progressed temperatures dropped even further. I regretted not bringing gloves. The light got more beautiful by the minute. The sun dropped behind the horizon. Right after the had sat the sky turned into fire. The most spectacular colors came to live in the sky. Flocks of birds flying by only added to the spectacle.
