Together with my brother (@evtvdw) I visited the town of Monschau during our roadtrip through the Eifel in Belgium and Germany. It was one of our first stops. Just before we parked the car it started to rain heavily. But fortunately for us by the time we stepped out of the car the rain had stopped and we started our walk through the old town of Monschau.
The town is accessible via a couple of small roads, with the car you really have the feeling of driving down towards the river when leaving the motorway. Because it had just rained when we started to explore the town there was mist everywhere. We were warned for enormous amounts of people because it’s a well known hotspot for tourists. But even though there was a small musical festival happening in the center of town we actually thought it wasn’t that crowded at all.
We started of with a climb of a nearby hill that provided an overview over the town. It’s nice to see the river “Roer” splitting the town in half. After the overview we headed down to the river, down to the center of town. We walked through the city and around each corner I could stop to take a photo, such a photogenic place, all those typical old buildings, so cool! The mist and later on the setting sun gave the town a very nice and relaxing mood. The river called “Roer” runs right through town. Because it was summer at the time there wasn’t much water flowing through the river.
We arrived late in the afternoon so not long after exploring the town we went looking for a nice place to have diner. We were able to have a simple meal on an outstanding location. All and all Monschau is definitely worth a visit! After diner I couldn’t resist to take that last typical shot of Monschau, the famous view know all over Instagram!
