The beautiful coastline of Étretat. Spectacular even on a cloudy day!
On our way to Normandy we thought it be nice to make a stopover in Étretat. We heard great things about the place, especially about the cliffs and beaches.
We arrived at lunch time. So first we headed into town to look for some food. We noticed that outside of town there were large parking lots so that people would not be tempted to bring their cars with them all the way downtown and to the coast. I did mean we had to walk for a couple of minutes but that wasn’t a problem at all.
Lunch was good but that was not why we came to Étretat. We headed to the coast. It did not dissappoint. The weather wasn’t great but the cliffs were impressive!
Leaving the beaches we were able to climb the cliffs. The views were breathtaking! The colors were awesome even though the sun wasn’t able to punch through the clouds. The hike was a short one and even though we saw a lot of other people, Étretat can be a busy place, we were there in off-season so it wasn’t much of a problem. The path was well marked but still a lot of people had to go close to the edges for the perfect selfie. This is bound to go wrong, but if you ask me, good riddance, something called natural selection, right 😉
Later we saw a little bit more of the sun. That asked for a cold beer. What a nice place Étretat is. I would suggest going there in the off-season. Even then you will find enough people visiting and climbing the rocks, I can not image how things will look when it’s high season.
